Think of your life as the wheels of your bicycle, with each area of your life as one of the spokes. If each area of your life is equally satisfactory, then each spoke will be the same length, and your wheels will be perfectly round.
First, divide your life into different dimensions. Each one will be one of your spokes. There are lots of different ways you can do this, just make sure that you encompass every single different area of your life. The spokes that I like to use are:
- Friendships and social
- Giving back
Draw yourself a big wheel, with your spokes marked on it, and a scale where 0 is at the centre, and 10 is at the rim. Now mark each spoke according to how satisfied you are RIGHT NOW on a scale of 0 to 10. When you've filled them all in, you'll be able to see exactly what the shape of your wheel is.
In the example above, you can see that the areas of Health and Environment have the shortest spokes. This person is having a bumpy ride, and exploring her Wheel of Life really helped her to prioritise and focus on re-balancing her wheels. Using NLP she set herself goals specifically to increase her Health and Environment scores. She also began to understand how some of the areas were connected, and by making small changes to one spoke, she could get results in another one.
Why not share with us your wheel, and the steps you're going to take to make it perfectly round. A good next step is to set yourself compelling goals to address any spoke which is making your wheels wobbly. I'll be writing more about goal setting in a future blog.
